Aces Friends and Family FUNdraiser 2017

Bourne End 2017On the 21st May Aces hosted the annual ‘Friends & Family FUNdraiser’ at Bourne End Junior Sports Club. In total 7 teams entered the fundraising tournament, all made up of friends & family of Aces players or supporters of the club itself.

The day was structured around a 7 team round robin tournament, allowing each team to play one another once. In total 21 games were played throughout the day, with each game running for 8 minutes. The day was split in half with a demonstration game being played between the Aces players present on the day, this included a mix of seniors and juniors.

All 21 games were played in extremely good spirit and all had fun throughout the day. The Final standing for the day are listed below:

Team Wins Draws Loses
Southcourt Massive 6 0 0
Mick Surman Motorcycles 0 3 3
The Taitinators 3 0 3
Aces Parents 3 0 3
Synergy Slammers 2 1 3
Houston Pocket Rockets 4 1 1
Wendover Warriors 0 1 5
  1. Southcourt Massive
  2. Houston Pocket Rockets
  3. The Taitinators & Aces Parents
  4. Synergy Slammers
  5. Mick Surman Motorcycles
  6. Wendover Warriors

Southcourt Massive 2017The winners of the Aces ‘Friends & Family FUNdraiser’ for the fourth consecutive year are Southcourt Massive, although having not lost a game in the four years they have taken part they were pushed hard this year by Wendover Warriors in particular.

Away from the basketball, food, drink and raffle tickets were on sale throughout the day. Aces player and supporters donated all the food and drink for the day and after deducting the cost of the venue raised £157.45 on the food and drink alone.

Once again the raffle had some big-ticket items that really drew in the sales. Everybody at Aces would like to thank all of those who made donations to the raffle prizes but a special mention has to be given to player and coach, Patrick O’Donovan who with the support of Jessops provided those big-ticket items.

In total the raffle raised an impressive £330. A figure that would not have been possible without the sales generated by Emma Wells, who year on year seems to sell more and more raffle tickets.

After combining the takings of the food & drink, raffle tickets and the money raised through teams entering the Aces Friends & Family FUNdraiser along with any other additional donations, Aces are proud to announce that the day raised an impressive £1,232.45.

Everybody at Aces would like to thank all those that contributed to the day and made it a success. Your continued support to the club is appreciated at every level of the club, thank you.

Finally, a special thank you has to be given to Barry Wells and family for once again organising and running such a successful event. Your hard work and commitment to the club is something that should never be taken for granted and everybody at Aces would like to thank you for your continuous commitment to the club both on and off court.

Can you be the team to finally defeat Southcourt Massive?

Aces Fundraiser at Bourne End Junior Sports Club

We held our annual Aces Friends & Family FUNdraiser yesterday at Bourne End Junior Sports Club and what a fantastic day we all had.

Seven teams entered this year so we held a Round Robin Tournament, where every team played each other, and every game being a hard fought battle with numerous baskets scored in each game. Competition was high, with all but one team clocking up wins, and the majority of teams clocking up 3 or more….

Half way through the day we took a break to allow our Under 15’s to put on a demonstration game and show people what the Aces are all about. It was fantastic to see the kids applying everything they work on in training and seeing it all come together for them in their game and I’m pretty sure we have future GB players amongst them.

When we resumed the tournament it was crunch time for 3 teams: Southcourt Massive, Mick Surman Motorcycles and The Taitinators, were all in a position to win the tournament and take the trophy…….. And best of all, they were yet to play each other so as you can imagine the second half was fairly intense.

We came to the last round with all to play for; if Southcourt Massive lost their final game then the winners of the very last game between Mick Surman Motorcycles and The Taitinators would force Southcourt Massive into play off’s to decide the tournament winners.

All 3 teams gave it all they had and the result ended:

In 3rd Place, with 4 wins and only 2 losses: Mick Surman Motorcycles

In 2nd Place, with 5 wins and only 1 loss: The Taitinators

And the Winners, as yet unbeaten for the 3rd year running: Southcourt Massive

Congratulations Southcourt Massive.

Aces would like to thank all of the participants for their contributions to our Club and for helping us put the FUN into FUNdraising. You all helped make the day our best one yet and it was great to see you all enjoying yourselves. There was plenty of banter and not a harsh word all day, which was absolutely fantastic, thank you all.

I would personally like to thank the Aces members that contributed to this event, I wouldn’t be able to organise it if it wasn’t for your continued help, support and donations; whether it be food for the club to sell, prizes for us to raffle, your vehicles to help us transport the wheelchairs and of course the time you set aside for these events I really do appreciate each and every one of you and everything you do.

Special thanks have to go to Bourne End Junior Sports Club for allowing us to use their facilities every year and to an outstanding referee for giving us her services for the day, thanks Shona Harnett.

Collectively we raised £1175 for the club, thanks again to all involved.Southcourt Massive 1

Bourne End Tournament Sunday 25th

The club ran a successful, keenly fought, but enjoyable Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at Bourne End Junior Sports Club last Sunday, the 25th of November.

We would particularly like to thank Wendy, Pete and Liz from BEJSC for their continued support of the Aces allowing us the free use their facility.

The event raised in excess of £1300 towards club funds.

Our grateful thanks to the ten teams that entered the event with competitors being drawn from as far afield as Worthing, Felixstowe, Sandhurst, East and South London and those closer to home from Aylesbury, Oxford and lastly the local team entered by the Junior Committee of BEJSC themselves.

The format for the day was two pools of five teams playing each other followed by semi-finals, third place playoff and final. The final was a closely contested affair between a team from Gerald Simonds and Wells 1 with the latter winning 4 nil.

Thank you to everyone that helped organise, donations, support and run the event.

The folks at Sytner BMW were kind enough to empty their showroom to allow Aces to stage a mini training session and a small demo game.
